N2 - Devoid of the conventions of other filmed accounts, this short video presents a near-wordless half-hour of observation: first the fall of the World Trade Center towers, then a wandering exploration through the rubble of ground zero. Barely audible voices float and mingle with the cries of sirens. Ground zero is a surreal moonscape of ash and stories-high destruction, dust-covered structures reduced to meaningless ruin, a shocking catastrophe so enormous that all the assembled resources seem paltry and inadequate. For New Yorkers, the most haunting images are those of once-bustling Lower Manhattan streets empty and covered in debris. As a document, the film is invaluable, as a viewing experience it is a meditation on how the passage of time has made it no more comprehensible ER -
